Keeping Them Up All Night

New York Times bestselling author Pamela Palmer discusses the techniques of plotting a page-turner including hooks, high stakes, story questions, rising action, character arcs, and high concept premises.

Emotional Authenticity – Breathing life into your characters

New York Times bestselling author Pamela Palmer discusses effective ways of finding the emotional truth of every character and how to use that truth to create living, breathing heroes and heroines who leap off the page and into readers' hearts. She discusses ways to avoid the classic complaint, "He wouldn't do that!" and characters reacting in ways deemed 'too stupid to live'. Topics include finding the right characters for each story, using archetypes to create unique people, avoiding stock hero/heroine reactions, keeping responses true to character no matter the circumstances, and tricks to creating motivation that compels your characters to react as your story demands.

Underwater Mountain Climbing
Or "How to build a publishing career while you're still unpublished"

There are many things a writer can do to build a network, credibility, and the skills needed to be a prolific, professional writer long before that first contract comes along.

New York Times bestselling author Pamela Palmer shares her own experiences from her decade-long journey to publication, a journey which included a Golden Heart win and four finals, as well as untold numbers of rejections. In this workshop, she'll share everything from the tricks to getting your name out there, to the workshops and books that made the biggest difference in her own writing. She'll also share tips on how to stay upbeat and motivated in the face of rejection, and how to view and use the pre-published years as the apprenticeship they really are.
